I was tagged by the lovely Abbie for the Sunshine Blogger Award, an award or tag given from bloggers to fellow bloggers that are seen as positive, warm and inspiring. The award requires you to answer 11 questions your awarder sets for you, followed by nominating 11 other bloggers and giving them 11 fun and interesting questions to answer in turn.
Abbie didn’t just tag bloggers in her post, but she put a reason about why she had selected each of us and I honestly wanted to cry over how lovely her reasons were for tagging me. “I wish there was enough words in the English language for me to explain just how FABULOUS this chick is. She’s so kind and thoughtful and also her blog is absolute goals. She’s always up to something exciting and I love her no holds barred attitude to towards so many things in life. She’s honestly such an inspiration to me.”
I have been blogging here and there, on and off, for the best part of 8 years now and I never saw myself as anything special, just another blogger in the ether but to be called an inspiration by someone was just amazing, and to hear such lovely things about yourself when you’re not feeling 100% in yourself is just the best thing. Roll on August when I get to meet this lovely lady in person, but until then here’s my answers to Abbie’s questions.
- Why did you start your blog?
I had been working in Magaluf for the summer season and when I came home and started looking for a new job, and as everyone I knew was working during the day time I spent a lot of my spare time on More Magazine’s Facebook page. They ran a competition to be a More mini blogger, which I didn’t win, but the girls who did said their posts were so heavily edited that it didn’t feel like their work anymore, and it prompted me to start my own blog and as such my original blog was born in 2010.
- Pineapple on a pizza? Yay or nay?
Nay! It just feels wrong but this is actually my sister’s favourite pizza topping so if we ever order and can’t get a half and half she gets all the pieces picked off mine and is more than happy with that arrangement.
- If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for?
Procrastinating. I feel like I could honestly win a medal in that, although I have improved a lot this year, but I’m still known for ignoring my work to binge a tv series.
- What would you have for your dream three course dinner?
The one I know for sure is that the starter would be scallops, but the main and dessert I would be stuck between a number of choices. For the main I would go for either steak and carbonara pasta, a lobster dish or beef in oyster sauce. The dessert could be jam roly poly and custard, Twix ice cream, apple crumble and custard or chocolate fudge cake and custard.
- If you had unlimited funds to build a house that you would live in for the rest of your life, what would the finished house be like?
Firstly, I would want a pastel pink house like Barbie’s dream house and I would want so many themed rooms. I would want a room I could hold washing machine parties in, throwback to the Magaluf days, and I would have a room where I could learn to pole dance. I want a home office to blog from, and a home gym because that’s the only way to get me to work out. I would want a games room and a swimming pool with flumes and a wave machine. I’d also probably like a photography room, and a room for my make-up artist and hair stylist to prep me for days out in. Clearly the house would be bloody huge!
- Are you usually early or late?
I’m a bit of a mix of both and it really depends on what the occasion or reason to be out is. If it’s important I will make sure I’m early or practically on time, but if I’m not too fussed or don’t feel rushed then I will take my time, ponce around and then realise I’m going to be late and say that I missed a bus.
- What would be your ideal way to spend the weekend?
I’d love to spend one weekend completely chilling out, binge watching Netflix and Amazon Prime, with takeaway and family time, followed by a weekend of exciting plans like a blog event, a night out, testing out a new restaurant or adventure in London, or even travelling somewhere new and seeing what they have to offer.
- What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
Do something really out there and eccentric! I went Naked Speed Dating, something I would have never expected but that was such a great experience and to be a part of the first in the UK was an amazing moment and memory for me. Also travel alone, I have my first solo holiday booked for this December when I’m off to Malta.
- How different was your life one year ago?
I wasn’t in a secure job, my blog had taken a complete back seat in my life, I was friends with toxic people that I couldn’t see at the time. In the past year I have removed some toxic people from my life, I have put more time and effort than ever into my blog and seen a growth in my DA and began to monetize it, and my job is now permanent although it’s still not blogging full time is it. The only thing I miss from last year is that I was skinnier, and I went on an amazing family holiday to Florida and a cruise round the Bahamas.
- What is something that your friends would consider “so you”?
How does anyone ever answer a question like this, I had to text my two best friends ask came to mind. One said that I’m the first to help a friend, I have an extremely black wardrobe and Prosecco all the way, and the other said sparkles, glitter and loudness, which between them sounds about right for me.
- If someone narrated your life, who would you want to be the narrator?
I would go with comedian Angela Barnes who I saw at the Comedy Store in London and she really reminded me of myself and I genuinely thought I was looking into my future. She turned 40 and instead of making a bucket list she made a fuck it list and that’s my kind of girl.
My nominations go to;
Lauren – I met this lovely lady about two years ago at an event but had followed her for a lot longer. She always has time for a quick Insta message, and by quick I mean I badger her in response to her stories. She is so kind and a delight in person, has some bloody sexy Instagram snaps and has the world’s most happiest baby. It’s a fact, I’ve met her!
Lyn – I met Lyn in an Instagram pod quite a while ago, and whilst I’m no longer in any pods we have a little group of us that grew to be quite close and supportive of one another. Lyn always has a kind word to say, can cheer you up during a down moment and is just a downright wonderful lady. Ever the glamorous grandma if I’m even half as fabulous when I’m a little older then I’ll be a happy girl.
Kelly – Kelly is my Twitter goddess, she comes out with some absolute crackers and is always really supportive of me on Twitter. She’s showing me how to rock it in your 30s as it creeps upon me (2 months to go guys), and whilst we are obviously both absolute rays of sunshine we both seem to have the same low tolerance level for stupidity and moron commuters so how can we not be friends.
Beth – I have never met Beth but she honestly strikes me as such a lovely person, so full of love and support for friends and even fellow bloggers. She is absolute photo goals on Instagram and her blog, and I can’t say I’ve ever seen her be negative across social media, imagine being that delightful!
Dorota – If you looked up full of energy and loving life you would find this girl’s picture next to it! A chance meeting at an event we were both flying solo at brought this ball of energy into my life, she makes me laugh and makes me feel energetic and ready to take on the day and the world, she has a really infectious personality.
Sophia – I met Sophia last year at an Urban Decay event but had been following her for a while before this, she has a lovely delicacy about her that I could never imagine having and it draws you in to wanting to be her friend, and feel like you could talk to her about anything without judgment.
Nikki – If you don’t follow this absolute babe on Instagram oh my god your life has no meaning, her stories give me life and I’m forever howling at them. I literally sit there waiting for the moment she say FITTT or begins a love affair with a spam emailer, and both of us had the same level of excitement over getting to review Prosecco. Your girls knows how to live and when we’ve peaked!
Char – The one I love to abuse, and who loves to abuse me, all through GIFs on Twitter of course, the more inventive and obscure the better. I honestly think people must look at our tweets and think these girls hate each other but in actual fact it’s our version of love. Throw in a glass of prosecco, or twenty five, and we are living the dream together. But if she asks I hate her and she’s muted from my life!
Molly – A new addition to my life that is actually one of Abbie’s real life friends through blogging. I recently had the pleasure of meeting and staying with her for a weekend and we had a great time. We were constantly laughing, found that we have loads in common and can’t wait till our next meet up with Abbie in tow.
My main girls Charli and Abi – Yes girls you’re being lumped in together but that’s because what can I say about one that I wouldn’t the other. You are both my best friends, my blogging confidants, my biggest and best supporters and the bubbles in my Prosecco. The Flounder and Sebastian to my Ariel, I know I know I’m too kind, you are welcome. I can’t say enough how much I love these girls and in our own way we are all little bundles of sunshine, although people who know us may have different ways of putting it.
