One of my goals for the year is to improve my fitness, cut down on all the unhealthy foods in my diet and to feel more confident in myself. I was sent a parcel containing some diet and fitness goodies from Superdrug’s Some Body range to help me on my journey.
The start of this process was joining a number of workout classes as the gym just doesn’t do it for me anymore. I began Strutology, Clubbersize and Boogie Bounce, which are run in the hall of a local school to me by a friend of my Mums. Strutology is described as a sassy dance class harnessing the power of the Strut, teachings you to walk tall and feel fabulous no matter your size. It’s really has made me feel so much more confident in myself and the teacher is always complimenting everyone which makes such a difference.
New research from Superdrug has revealed that for 6 out of 10 Brits a simple compliment in January is the way to stay motivated with New Year goals, with 88% believing more compliments need to be given in January than any other month to encourage, inspire and motivate during the bleak cold winter.
Dr Becky Spelman, Registered Practitioner Psychologist & member of BABCP backs the findings, saying, “When it comes to getting fit, losing weight, or focusing on our health, positive acknowledgement is very useful. Hearing that we are looking good from people, and that the time and effort we have invested in our health are bearing fruit, actually spurs us on to do even more.”
Sadly no matter how enjoyable a workout is, what inevitably comes with it is aching, sore muscles, usually even worse the second day after exercising, why exactly is that! And this is where protein takes centre stage as your best friend. Without an adequate amount of protein your muscles won’t heal up as quickly and could therefore lead to overtraining of the muscle which in turn could lead to an injury. Protein shakes are better than solid food after a workout as they don’t take as much time to digest and break down the protein for the muscles.
I also love having protein shakes as they always seem to reduce my hunger which makes the workout more worthwhile for me. The Some Body Strawberry Protein Shake tastes just like a strawberry milkshake, it’s reminded me of Strawberry Nesquik which some may find a bit sweet but I loved it. It retails at £17.99 for 600g, and Superdrug regularly have special offers across their diet and fitness range.
I have seen a lot of recipes flying around recently for protein pancakes and so I was really excited to get the chance to try out the Protein Pancake Mix, and I can imagine you are wondering where the glorious picture of my pancakes is… I’m sorry to tell you guys that my first attempt was an unholy failure and there was no need for me to document the mess that I created. Thankfully the pack contains 4 sachets so I will be trying again and posting my (fingers crossed) success on my Instagram Stories.
Finally I got to try the Sweet and Salty Popcorn, well I say that but I actually got to try only a handful of pieces because popcorn is a big hit in my household so the family were all over this. Not only does it taste good but it also caters to everyone as it’s dairy free, gluten free and vegan friendly. At only 79p a bag I have a feeling I’ll be getting asked to make a pit stop in Superdrug a lot more often.
Within the range they also have chocolate bars, flavoured sparkling water, detox teas and the cutest protein shaker bottle. The bottle has a quote on the front saying Dream Believe Succeed and a measurement chart on the back, and the ultimate bonus is the storage that comes with it so you can carry your protein, or healthy snacks, with you. I will definitely be ordering myself one of these bad boys!
