The Best Thing About Memories Is Making Them

Is anyone else sat around scratching their head at the fact that it’s April already and this year is flying by with a quarter of it already gone. The fact it is April already though does mean that we are halfway to my birthday month of August and closer to my Disney Fancy Dress 30th Party. Now I don’t want to go wishing the year away so I thought I’d take a step back and look at what I got up to in the first few months of 2018.

In January, whilst everyone took on the challenge of Dry January, I already had plans for the very first weekend of the month so that was never going to be an option for me. Abi and I were off to Bedford to celebrate Scarlett‘s birthday and it really started the year off on a high for me. I got to catch up with Scarlett who is usually busy on hostess duty when I see her at events, we had a lovely meal, danced the night away, made some new friends and cemented friendships with bloggers we had previously met but not had as much time with, like Char.

January seemed to be quite a month of blogger plans, not in the event sense but in actually friend meet ups which is always a lovely bonus, who doesn’t want some blogger friends who completely understand this community. I went on a girls night out with a new bunch of bloggers I had not met before but had found myself in a group with on Twitter after an unfortunate situation befell us all. It was lovely to think that whilst we had all dealt with something horrible it had brought us together and incited a sense of female support and positivity rather than splitting us apart and having us at each other’s throats. Yes, I’m sure you can gather it was all over a man, a poor excuse for a man who wouldn’t know the truth if it punched him in the face.

I went for my very first Afternoon Tea at The Ham Yard Hotel in Soho with Lauren, Jenny, Justine, Emily and Nirvana. The venue was gorgeous and they were great in catering to my dietary requirements so my first time was a complete success, as well as getting to catch up with the girls. Another catch up I had in January wasn’t in the traditional sense, I went to The Soho Theatre with my friend Claire to see Lauren Pattinson perform her latest comedy show. We first saw Lauren perform a small part of her act at The Comedy Store last year during a charity show and I have kept up with her on Twitter ever since. We have messaged multiple times and I feel very invested in her career and I’m loving watching her grow as a comedian, and we saw her after the show in the bar and had a quick chat.

In February I took a week off work to use up my remaining holiday and lined it up with Claire’s week off work too. We had been bought a Boozy Brunch for Christmas from my Mum and we actually ended up starting and ending our week off with a brunch. We went to Bunga Bunga where I had the most mouthwatering bit of steak, which just fell apart beautifully at the lightest touch, as well as a starter of eggs and parma ham. Claire had a salad followed by a pizza, and we were kept topped up with Prosecco and peach syrup if we wanted to shake it up and have Bellinis.

The second brunch we attended was a Mean Girls themed brunch, which whilst it could have done with a little bit more structure and control, I did enjoy myself. I really wanted to go all out in my outfit but in the end we just went with the classic pink, which was good as that’s pretty much everyone else did too. We were sat at the Cool Asians table and made friends with two girls on our table, one of which was actually a cool asian in her words. There was an hour of free prosecco so we made sure to make the most of that and then the four of us split some bottles once the time ended. There was a bit of a drunk day time dancing session and I had the classic make friends in the toilet moment. The event was run by Joshua Walker PR and they have a range of themed brunches including Harry Potter, Grease and Clueless, and I think as they throw more they will become more sleek and on point.

After placating my inner teenager with the Mean Girls Brunch I went full on regression to my inner child and went to a Disney Movie Overnight PJ Party. Locked in a cinema overnight we watched 7 Disney movies, in our pyjamas, with an array of snacks and caffeinated drinks to keep us awake. I was a little disappointed when the mystery film of the night turned out to be Lady and The Tramp as I think it’s a bit of a pointless film with no real plot, but other than that I was absolutely buzzing about all the choices. The only problem was that my absolute favourite was the last movie and at this point I was absolute knackered, although I only missed around half hour’s worth of films the entire night due to mini drop offs but we survived to the end and were in the survivors photo.

March was quite the reunion month for myself and Charli after a good few months apart, but for us it doesn’t matter whether we see each other every day for a month or are apart for 6 months, it’s always the exact same once we are together as she’s basically family. We attended the Alex Silver PR International Womens Day event where I had a makeover by the Joan Collins team, had my hair done by Errol Douglas and my brows done by HD Brows. After a lot of Prosecco at the event we decided to go to the pub, our old haunt for more drinks and a good old catch up.

Charli and I also got the chance in March to review a brand new Indian Restaurant in Mayfair, prior to it’s opening on the 1st April. It was the fanciest Indian restaurant I have ever been to, we had a delicious meal and were treated so well by the staff including the chef who personally came up from the kitchen to go through what we could and couldn’t eat on the menu due to allergies. I would definitely recommend visiting Matsya if you want to splash out and treat yourself, and you have to get their Jaggery Butter and Orange Crepes.

On Mothers Day I went to Loch Fyne with my Mum, Stepdad, sister, aunt and uncle for their special Mothers Day brunch. Three of us went for the Lobster dish which had lobster on a English Muffin with poached eggs, I was worried that the combination wouldn’t work but it was a beautiful dish and it came with a glass of champagne, a soft drink and a hot drink all included in the price. My sister had pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, and the men went for the Full English and everyone had a really good feed and enjoyed it immensely.

Finally in March you will have seen that I attended the UK’s first ever Naked Speed Dating event. It was a complete eye opener and more enjoyable that I ever imagined and I can’t wait to see it take off across the nation. I couldn’t tell you the last time I felt more in tune with my body, liberation and confidence overtook me during the night and I would recommend anyone wanting to try something new or wanting to get out of their comfort zone should definitely look into it. Or maybe build yourself up and go to some clothes Speed Dating events first, although personally I preferred the naked version because there’s no pressure once you’ve bared all.

I also went on a number of nights out with Abi and some other friends, and I’ve attended quite a few blog events recently but I haven’t included them in my look back because I will posting about them over the next few weeks. I’m hoping the next three months are just as exciting and fun as the first three have been, and I should be on to a winner because I am off to Newcastle at the end of the month, have a couple of birthdays coming up and I am going to the Blogosphere Magazine Awards in June. I’d love to know what your highlight of this year has been so far.
