Did you know that this month is National Bed Month, and whilst my bed is basically my boyfriend I really do struggle to sleep some nights. Once I’m asleep I tend to be a deep sleeper, I’m that one sleeping through a baby screaming in the next room, the one you see in the morning and say oh my god did you hear such and such last night and I’m there like no with a confused look. My problem is the actual falling asleep part, some nights I’ve laid awake for actual hours before finally dropping off and this is regardless of how tired I am when I get into bed. So when I heard the words “£7 sleep in a bottle” I knew I couldn’t pass on the chance to try it out.
Feather & Down have a range of products including bath, body and home fragrance products that are perfect for those of us in need of a good night’s sleep, is it just psychological that I’m yawning whilst writing about sleep. They are dedicated to encouraging a restful night’s sleep through regime, routine and a specially blended sleep fragrance containing lavender and chamomile essential oils, known for promoting a better night’s sleep.
In a four-week independent study 84% of people who trialled Feather and Down’s Pillow Spray, the £7 sleep in a bottle, 84% said it helped them to have a more restful night’s sleep, at just a fraction of the cost of similar products on the market. When reading some of their statistics I was surprised to see that 1 in 5 people admitted that it takes them more than an hour to drift of to sleep, and another 90% saying that they still feel tired when they wake. I can say I definitely relate to the 329 people they surveyed, aged over 18, as I could get all the sleep in the world and still feel tired in the morning.
Now personally I am not a big fan of Lavender as a scent but I have heard so much about how it can help with getting a better night’s sleep so I was both excited at the prospect of trialling these products, whilst at the same time wondering how I would handle the smell. Oh dear god, when the parcel arrived the products were in a white box with a blue Feather & Down ribbon that contrasted beautifully and was a photographing dream, and I seriously didn’t open it for ages because I just sat there sniffing it. It must be the chamomile infusion because these products smell amazing and I fully look forward to using the products just for the scent alone.
Recently awarded ‘Best New Health & Wellbeing Product’ at the Beauty Awards with OK! Magazine, as voted for by readers, the Pillow Spray uses a relaxing infusion of the Lavender and Chamomile essential oils to reduce an anxious mind and encourage calm to aid a restful night’s sleep. The Spray has been compared to This Works Deep Pillow Spray, but at significant discount with This Works retailing at £18 and Feather & Down retailing at £7.
I’m a nightmare for not being able to switch off once I get in bed, it’s like every thought or moment I haven’t worked through suddenly rushes to the surface but since using the Pillow Spray I have seen a significant difference in this and I seem to falling asleep sooner than I have in the past. One thing I will say is that personally I have to give it a few minutes after spraying my pillow before getting in to bed, but I think this is actually down to the fact that I have breathing problems and as the directions state to spray a generous amount, it’s just too much for my lungs and windpipe to cope with if I get in straight away. This is more than likely not relevant to anyone without a medical issue affecting them and I am not saying to not use the product, just give it a few minutes.
The Melting Shower Cream, retailing at £6, is said to cleanse your skin, clear your mind and let the stress of your day wash away. As the name implies the Shower Cream melts into a calming oil when gently massaged into wet skin, leaving it feeling beautiful soft and deeply nourished. Did you know if you raise the temperature a degree or two with a bath or shower, the cooling process at bedtime is actually likely to help you fall asleep faster.
The All Purpose Sleep Balm, retailing at £7, is a blend of moisturising Vitamin E and relaxing essential oils creating a calming fragrance on your pulse points, helping to ease your mind and encourage a restful night’s sleep. Both the All Purpose Sleep Balm and the Melting Shower Cream are free from Parabens, Sulphates, Minerals and Oils. Along with placing fragrance on your pulse points, like the Sleep Balm, to help with a restful night’s sleep you can raise the temperature a degree or two in the bath, as the cooling process at bedtime is likely to help you fall asleep faster. You should also try to create a relaxing bedtime routine, take time to yourself in a calm and quiet atmosphere, preferably without your mobile phone in hand as the lights can affect your sleep, even in night mode. You should find that from this you are easing any stress and anxiety, and preparing your body for sleep. Have a look on their website to treat yourself to all these products and more, including a number of cute little sleep aiding sets.
