Today is my Mum’s birthday and after giving her a Kate Spade Handbag and a Victoria Secret hoodie (did alright didn’t she) we went for dinner at Chapter One. Chapter One is what fine dining is about, exceptional food in a stylish setting. They believe that offering value for money is just as important as award-winning food.
I had a starter of Roast Breast of Wood Pigeon, Orange Braised Chicory & Pancetta Crumbs followed by a main course of Josper Grilled USDA Prime Rib-Eye Steak (350g), finished off with a slice of Apple Tart. My sister had a starter of Risotto of Cep Mushrooms, Parmesan & Crème Fraiche, followed by a main of Fillet of Lemon Sole, Crushed Ratte Potatoes & Warm Tartar Sauce finished off with Strawberry Macaroons, Milk Ice Cream & Lemon Verbena. My Mum had the Fish Of The Day; Pan Friend Hake & Linguine, but I can’t remember the other bits she had.
They have a selection of menus, including a Tasting Menu with Wine, but we had the Dinner Menu which is on a special offer on Sundays and offers three courses for £34.95, which is a bargain with the quality they present you with. My Mum and Step-dad are massive fans, making a point of going at least once a year or more, and usually taking half the family with them.
I am usually quite a fussy eater so it was always a worry as to whether I would find anything on the menu to eat but I tried Wood Pigeon for the first time, wolfed down a substantial steak and just about managed to squeeze in the dessert, but it may or may not have collapsed before I was able to take a photo. I would definitely recommend Chapter One to anyone looking for a new restaurant to try out.
