Tips for a Cosy Autumn Garden

With the change of the season from Summer to Autumn we suddenly find ourselves retreating into the home more and spending less time in the garden to avoid the colder weather and dreary setting as the flowers go out of season. I for one am not ready to let go of my outdoor time, and with a few little tips and tricks that I’m going to share with you, I plan on creating a dreamy, cosy space for some much-needed fresh air and relaxation time.

For me being out in the garden can become a bit of a nightmare as I have quite a severe form of hay fever so the best thing for me is to have artificial grass. No worry of that fresh grass smell threatening to see off my symptoms, but also when you come to the colder months you still have a natural, bright and healthy-looking garden that is inviting and requires hardly any maintenance. No dreary reminder or summers past.

Fairy lights across the garden are perfect for a cosy outdoor space, you could wrap them around a tree trunk, drape across hedges or fences, use them to light paths, or alternatively use garden lanterns to create a welcoming entrance to an area. Another option would be to get a fire pit, with comfy surrounding furniture, perfect for having friends over as a focal point whilst you’re sitting toasting marshmallows.

Take shelter by adding some form of shielding in the garden, pick an area to isolate with a summer parasol, sunshade or gazebo to shield you from the elements, which will also create an intimate area. If you do not have a shelter make sure to get a cover for your furniture so they do not get ruined in the rain and stop you from making the most of the dryer evenings. Soften furniture with faux fur throws and wool cushions to create your own little cosy nest area and have snuggly blankets and hot water bottles on standby to keep everyone warm and toasty.

Finally, the perfect way to make your garden cosy and warm is with hot food and drinks of course. A mug of hot chocolate alongside a good book, under the light of your fairy lights wrapped in your blanket on your covered seated area sounds like a great way to spend an evening to me. Or even a cheeky chocolate cake served in a mug, snuggle up with your partner under the moonlight with light music playing in the background. Suddenly I’m all excited for the cold to arrive.

I love evenings in the garden as Autumn sets in. A bit colder then summer but a little blanket and a fire is everything.
