Nicknames, Nicknames, Nicknames

Anyone who follows me on Twitter or Instagram will have noticed or even questioned me stating my love for; Pudding, Shamo, Mini Me, The Boy and My Person, and I think it’s about time I cleared up the confusion around this. ***I do not have a boyfriend. I do not have an unhealthy obsession with dessert (well I obviously wouldn’t outright refuse cake). I do not have an overwhelming love for a whale. I do not find the character in Austin Powers appealing***

Confession time, I love a nickname and if you look through my phone you will find a vast majority of my contacts are actually listed by their nickname. All the names above refer to my three best friends, and today I’m letting you into my world, showing them off and explaining why they got their names.

Charli “Shamo/My Person”
Charli is a fellow blogger that I met at an event over the summer of 2011, after speaking on a Twitter for a while. We found straight away that we had a lot in common and bonded to the point that we decided to go on holiday together the following year and have done every year since. As Charlotte from Sex and The City said “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with” She could not have been more right and as our friendship grew to the point where we couldn’t go a day without talking to each other, this is when she became My Person. Last year’s trip to Magaluf was when the nickname Shamo came about, after some hefty little fat boy tried to hit on us and when we rejected him he decided to opt for the age old classic of I never wanted you anyway and called us both Shamo. After making said boy (and his friend), or as I liked to refer to him that night as the boulder with feet that could take out a building, we found we were so amused by the comment that we’ve called each other Shamo regularly since.
George “Pudding/The Boy”
I met George at work and we did not like each other, he was this little nightmare that would tempt my staff to slack off and take cheeky breaks when they were not supposed to, and I was the mean supervisor who told him off… Until he was moved to my department. September 2013 he was moved up to Childrenswear and being the only boy on the department until our Christmas temps started he was aptly named The Boy which stuck even when he finally had some testosterone company. My Childrenswear team soon became a little family and at some point during our time together on the department I started calling him Pudding. I actually have no idea why or where this name came from but I just started calling him it one day and that was that, no one else can get away with calling him it and I think the only reason I could was because he knew there was no arguing with him and Pudding was a better option than Puddilicious ha. We’ve had the whole classic “Are you in love” stuff from pretty much everyone we work with, because you know how boys and girls can’t just BE FRIENDS but it’s nothing more than an amazing friendship and I’m very lucky to have him. He’s even come to love being called Pudding, whether he’ll admit or not, because he has a bottle opener on his keys that has Pudding inscribed on it, oh yeah one of his birthday presents :p
Amy “Mini Me”
Last but by no means least, another member of the Childrenswear family is Amy who started working with us Christmas 2013. Clearly she is not my Mini Me in looks but in lifestyle choices, it’s like literally like watching my life happen all over again. She is 19 and I’m 26 and the amount of conversations we had when we first met where I would say “I’ve done that” “That’s exactly what happened to me” or she has said “That’s what I want to do” “I already have the planned” was unreal. I think you get the picture, she’s like my younger self but in a hotter package, the girl is an absolute beaut. If she’s not being called Mini Me then she is referred to as My Amy because we have a lot of Amy’s working in our store and people need to differentiate, and everyone knows who Tanya’s Amy is 🙂
Now don’t get mistaken, I have a lot of amazing friends that I love very much and would hate to be without. This post is not meant to upset anyone or take away from them, it’s just to clear up for people what the hell I’m talking about on Twitter and Instagram.
