The Leigh Koslow Mystery Series, Edie Claire

I’ve never really posted about books before yet I read between 5-7 books every month, which I know because this year I decided to track my reads and see how much I can get through in a year. I’ve always enjoyed reading and over the years I’ve come to realise that my favourite books to read are from the Crime, Thriller and Mystery genre, and in particular I love a series that you can sink your teeth into. So I’ve decided it’s time for me to start including book reviews on the blog, and I’ll be starting with The Leigh Koslow series by Edie Claire.

Leigh Koslow is a single career woman, working as an advertising copywriter who although avidly avoiding trouble, seem to have an aptitude for finding dead bodies or ending up in troubling and dangerous situations. The first book in the series is called Never Buried and is perfect for any age with both myself and my younger sister enjoying reading them. I have to say one of my favourite things about the books is that I have never once worked out who is the culprit is or how the story is going to pan out. Edie has kept me guessing through nine books and I’m about the start the tenth and I can’t imagine the next two will be any different.

Edie Claire is a veterinarian, a childbirth educator, and a mother of three and she is able to draw from all her experiences when writing the book. Leigh’s father Randall Koslow is a veterinarian and you can see that Edie is an expert in this area and is able to truly bring you into every moment of the book with great writing and intricate detailing where needed. Over the course of the books I have become invested in the characters lives, I’ve gotten angry at them for making mistakes, I’ve rooted for them to find love and happiness, and I have finished each and every book with a smile on my face content in how it has finished. Although it doesn’t stop me speculating and itching to get my hands on the next book to find out what the future has in store for everyone.

This was the first full-length adult book Edie ever wrote, and had planned for it to a romantic suspense, until she realised there was no man in it, and so it became a mystery instead. To really make the story authentic she interviewed the real Chief of Police from Avalon, where the book is based. Edie has a Facebook page and is very active with her readers, posting regular updates and responding to any posts you leave on the page.

Never Buried is currently available to download for free on Amazon Kindle so if you were interested in trying out a new author or series then now is the perfect time. And so I will leave you with the most important part, the synopsis for the book;

The truth about what happened in 1949 went to Paul Fischer’s grave… Too bad his body didn’t!
Advertising copywriter Leigh Koslow doesn’t pack heat–just a few extra pounds. And she doesn’t go looking for trouble. When she moved into her cousin Cara’s refurbished Victorian house, she wasn’t planning on discovering a corpse–certainly not one that had been embalmed ten years before. But as anyone in the small Pittsburgh borough of Avalon could tell her, her cousin’s house has a history attached. A history dating back to two mysterious deaths in the summer of 1949.
Someone wants Leigh and Cara out of the house–someone who has something to hide. But that someone doesn’t know Leigh’s impetuous cousin, and when Cara digs her heels in, Leigh looks to her old college chum, local policewoman Maura Polanski, for help. But the answers the trio find only point to more questions. Were the scandalous deaths of fifty years ago really an accident and a suicide? Or were they murder?
The nearer the women get to the truth, the more desperate someone becomes. Because some secrets are better off kept. Especially when they hit close to home!

    I’ve been a reader all of my life too! There’s nothing like a good book at the end of a long day. I always love a good mystery or true life spy story .. even though the suspense nearly kills me every time!
