After a rather rough year I was more than ready to see the back of 2017 but rather than dwell on the hardships and struggles of the year I’ve decided to looked back over the year and pick out some of the better memories and leave the year with those in the forefront of my mind. It’s so easy getting lost in day to day life and remember the struggles and hardship but if you take a step back and purposely reflect you find that it’s not all as bad as you remember.
January – I went to a lovely little Italian restaurant with the family called L’Ulivo before seeing Kinky Boots at the Adelphi Theatre, what an amazing show! I went to Harpenden for my friend Em’s Superhero 30th where I dressed up as Black Widow from the Avengers and had such a fun night. I had a late Christmas with my Dad and Nan as his birthday is in January so we’ve started combining the two and I spend Christmas Day with my Mum. I was invited to YouTube to cook with the SORTEDfood boys on a Co-Op campaign and I attended Scarlett‘s Go Glam Gala with Ana and Cat.
February – One of my Christmas presents was tickets to The Lily Foundation Charity Comedy Night where I got to see Romesh Ranganathan, Sean Walsh, Jon Richardson and more comics at The Comedy Store. Another Christmas present, but from 2015, was to see the Harry Potter play The Cursed Child with the fam as my sister is a huge fan. I went to a Bannatyne Spa opening evening where I got a chocolate massage with my friend Abi, and I also attended a JewelleryBox & So…? Event. As a single lady I had a lovely Galentines date with Ana at the Big Easy, where we enjoyed the Boozy Brunch special of Lobster and Unlimited Prosecco.
March – My friend Em came down to visit me and we spent the weekend at The Hilton in Maidstone and had a night out at Strawberry Moons. I celebrated Lauren‘s birthday and stayed at a hotel with Justine and Emily and got a chance to have a catch up with some of my blogging girls. I did actually spend one weekend at home that month for a birthday from my old work and made that classic drunk decision to have one of the boys stay at mine.
April – I had another birthday from my old work but I was better behaved this time, well in terms of going home alone at least. I day drank with Charli whilst streaming the Grand National in the pub, before continuing the night with Claire. I went to see my little sister perform in a show put on by her stage school and she wowed us all when she belted out a solo on stage. I was absolutely gobsmacked when I was sent a blog parcel from my favourite brand Urban Decay and I finished off the month celebrating my first early pay day Friday finish getting drunk with Aaron.
May – I attended the Kiss and Pixie Lott False Lash and Nails Summer Launch at The Haymarket Hotel with Charli and bumped into my friend Sarah whilst there and had a quick catch. I had another weekend in Maidstone for a School Disco themed night, although on arrival me, Claire, Olga and Aaron were the only ones dressed up in the whole club. Me, Claire and Aaron had a day drinking date and let’s just say none of really remember the journey home and Aaron lost all his cards. My office ran Learn At Work days for two weeks and I got to attend talks with Steve Parish, Crussh, Lady May Den Voyage, Jodie Kidd and Ben Fogle amongst many others.
June – Me and Claire decided to forgo a night out and be grown ups for once and went to see the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean at the cinema and went for dinner at the lovely, family run Xian’s nearby. It was Claire’s birthday this month so we had a day trip Brighton (where I got insanely burnt), we saw a charity night at The Comedy Store featuring Adam Hills, Steven K Amos, Dara O’Brien, Lauren Patterson and more, and we saw The Dream Boys with Olga. I took part in The Color Run with Lauren, Charlotte, Ana and Sam and I went to a Strutology exercise charity night. I saw Miranda Hart in Annie at the theatre with my Mum and sister, and I attended Scarlett’s Blogger Ball with Abi and Charli. I got to meet the lovely Pixie Lott and watch her play an intimate set at The Cuckoo Club with Charli for the launch of her Pixie Lott Paint range and was super proud of my photography of the night.
July – Another comedy night at The Comedy Store, this time with Charli and we saw Sara Pascoe, Shappi Khorsandi, Angela Barnes and more. I attended a number of Xmas In July event and even left one to go to a work quiz night which I turned up sufficiently drunk to, with a number of Christmas snacks for my team to sample. There was a big leaving do at work and it was a chance to get to know a lot of the work gang a lot more. I went to Lingfield Races with the fam although the weather wasn’t great so we left early and went for Chinese. I got to catch up with some of my blogging girls again at Lauren’s engagement party and we also had a day trip to Junkyard Golf later in the month. I attended Scarlett’s Bloggers Suite with Charli and ended up in a very awkward run in with an aggressive man, not that we let it ruin the evening, and we went to a Bloggers Brunch the following day.
August – I took Charli to Pattisserie Valerie and Chi Kitchen in Oxford Street’s Debenhams for the start of her birthday celebrations, and the next day we had joint birthday drinks in BeAtOne Covent Garden. The following week I was back at the same BeAtOne for joint birthday drinks with Jenny and our blogging gals. I flew to Orlando with my family on the 15th August for a weeks holiday before boarding a cruise for a week. We went to both the Universal parks and I spent my actual birthday at Volcano Bay and had a lovely dinner at P F Changs, a Chinese restaurant. After a week in Orlando we went on a weeks cruise around the Bahamas, stopping at St Thomas where we went on a Champagne Catamaran Sail and Snorkel trip. We went to St Martaan where we had a stroll around the island and had some family time, and our last day trip was to Nassau where I got to visit the hotel I’ve been dreaming of for years, The Atlantis Hotel and spent the day with my sister at their water park which including a 60 foot almost vertical drop slide and the Serpent Slide which ends with you riding through a tube in a shark filled lagoon.
September – I took Charli to see Pitch Perfect at The Backyard Cinema for a late birthday treat, and I spent a weekend in Kempton Park with Claire for the Ladies Day Races. I went for a family dinner at The Ivy Tower to celebrate my aunt’s 50th and went to an Asda Wine Tasting event with my friend Christine. Claire took me to see Crystal Palace play at Selhurst Park and booked us a hotel for the evening so we could party in Croydon after. I took part in a Help For Heroes Charity Bike Ride with people from work, and I attended Scarlett’s Bloggers Festival with Abi where I got to catch up with Char and finally got to meet Amanda who is absolute blogger, mum, power house goals! I got my fanciest ever blog invite when Graham & Brown had me at their Off The Wall Pop Up Restaurant and Julien MacDonald Couture Installation Party, which I took Abi to.
October – I celebrated my friend Aaron’s 21st where he got so drunk he couldn’t actually leave the party without assistance, as if there’s any other way to celebrate turning 21. I went Speed Dating with Abi and spent a weekend in St Albans staying with my friend Em and celebrating Sarah’s 21st on one of the nights there. I attended the Urban Decay Halloween party and got to meet Danielle, Cynthia and Sophia who I have followed on Twitter for like FOREVER. I celebrated my favourite holiday of the year, Halloween, in Brighton with Claire and Olga where I dressed as a skeleton and for the first time done my own make up, instead of paying a make up artist, and was really proud of the finished look.
November – I went to Pergola On The Roof with the girls from work and attended the Latest In Beauty Greatest Showman event where I met the lovely Dorota and got to have a quick catch up with Hannah who I hadn’t seen in such a long time. I went Speed Dating with the amazing Ashleigh who is my girl when it comes to all conversations boy related now. I attended another Pixie Lott event thrown by Kiss Nails and Lashes, and I got to see the upcoming collection from Bensons & Harveys at their SS18 Press Show. I dipped my toes into the world of dating and got to try out Swingers Golf, and I had a facial from the lovely people at Sk:n. I got to reawaken my inner teenager when Aaron took me to see Steps and Vengaboys at The O2 and celebrate that I had finally been made permanent at my job after being on a rolling contract for a year.
December – I went to Winter Wonderland with Lauren, Emily and Nirvana which Lauren organises every year. I stayed at a hotel in Canary Wharf with Claire after having dinner at Burger and Lobster, and she took me to see The Little Mermaid at The Backyard Cinema the following day. I went to my exercise class’s Christmas workout and meal with my Mum, and Claire and I got to taste test all the upcoming and current cider flavours at the Rekorderlig Cider Lodge. I saw The Greatest Showman with Claire and Olga and had dinner at Bella Italia before we got competitive over The Big Fat Quiz Of The Year (I came second) and tomorrow we are spending New Years Eve at a Masquerade Ball themed night at our local Slug and Lettuce where there’s no entry fee and 2-4-1 cocktails all night.
If you’ve made it to the end of this post I salute you and I can imagine reading all that you must be thinking how can this girl say she’s over 2017. There was sadly a lot of hard times and health issues going on in the background of all this but after writing this post I feel a sense of closure and can happily move on from the bad parts of this year and appreciate all the good. This wasn’t a year of pain but a year of growth, I made it through each day and I’m a better me because of everything I faced and I’m proud of that. So I can officially say goodbye 2017 and hello 2018 with a smile on my face and confidence in all of the great things to come. Happy New Year everyone and here’s to us all smashing 2018!
