London Open-Top Sightseeing Bus Tours with MegaBus

Megabus have branched out and now offer budget non-stop London open-top sightseeing bus tours. Start your tour from one of three available locations; The London Eye, Tower of London or Park Lane, and sit back and relax whilst taking in 50 world-famous landmarks including The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.

I was invited alongside a group of bloggers to be one of the first to experience the new sightseeing tour. We were picked up from the London Eye after getting to experience the London Eye VIP experience with MegaBus’s mascot Sid, getting a bird’s eye view of the gorgeous city I call home. Do you ever find that when you live somewhere you see less of it because you pretty much take for granted that it’s always there on your doorstep.

Unlike other open-top sightseeing tours you are guaranteed an upstairs seat, so you do not need to worry about being at your pick-up point extremely early. This is not a hop-on, hop-off service but a two-hour non-stop tour of London and prices start from as low as £1 plus a booking fee. Every hour between 10am and 5pm you can board one of the double decker buses every day of the week and learn all about the fascinating history of each London landmark, which some surprise commentary from Sid too.

Whether you are visiting London for a short amount of time and want to see as much as you can in the small-time scale, or you live in London but have never taken the time to truly explore it the MegaBus Sightseeing Tours are great for everyone. If you are from out of town there’s no need to worry about working out where you are when you disembark the bus, as you get dropped off at the same pick-up point.

I think MegaBus may have a little clout with the weather as the day we got to experience the open-top tour was the hottest day we had seen so far this year. Sitting atop the bus with the sun shining down, the wind blowing through my hair and the commentary teaching me some historical facts about London was a great way to spend my evening. The sun began to set during the tour and the city looked absolutely beautiful and, in that moment, I felt so proud to live in this great city.

If you’re a student with an NUS Extra card you can save on your seat price and have a little extra money to buy some souvenirs or put it towards dinner at one of the many great restaurants across the city. You will need to pre-book your tickets online, which you can do right up until the last minute, and if you get one of the £1 tickets that works out at just 2p a landmark, bargain or what! The next time you are in London or when you have a quiet weekend that needs to be filled get yourself booked on to a MegaBus sightseeing tour.

I like open top bus tours and we do them when we visit other cities. I used to be a bit judgey about them but actually they’re the best way to get your bearings in a foreign city.

I love that you get an upstairs seat, there’s nothing worse than being stuck downstairs on a bus tour and never getting to see anything! The prices are fab too x
